Things to do in the UK this festive season
This weekend Kempton Park Racecourse hosts the William Hill Winter Festival. Day one of the two day showpiece, on Boxing Day, features three Group 1 races. The second day of the Festival, on Saturday 27th December 2014, stars two Group 2 races and a host of competitive handicaps, always providing key clues for the rest of the National Hunt Season.
Starting this weekend, the South Devon Railway is offering a Mince Pie Special. You can enjoy a mince pie and trip down the train line. You do not have to book in advance, however contact the company for prices.
After the excitement of Christmas, wrap up warm and bring the children to join a winter trail through the grounds at Leeds Castle. Collect festive clues for the chance to be entered into an exciting prize draw. A valid entrance ticket to Leeds Castle is required for this event, plus a small charge applies.
Edinburgh's Hogmanay is one of the biggest and best New Year celebrations in the world. Things get underway on 30 December with the spectacular Torchlight Procession. On Hogmanay itself, the action moves to Princes Street in the very heart of the city of Edinburgh beneath the spectacular backdrop of Edinburgh Castle. Around 80,000 people party their way into the new year at the Concert in the Gardens featuring incredible live music and entertainment, DJ’s, giant screens, outdoor bars and of course, the world-famous Edinburgh Hogmanay Midnight Fireworks on the castle ramparts.
There are loads of events over the three days of celebration so make sure you check out the website to see what’s in store.
